Dedication to God’s Word.

Nehemiah 8:1  And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

Let us resolve today to continue in steadfast service by reaffirming our dedication to the scriptures.  The people in our text knew that there is great gain from simply reading God’s Word.  There are many, many things that reading the Bible will do for you.

V.1.     It encourages fellowship with God’s people.  They gathered together.

V.2-3.  It’s for men, women and all with understanding. ALL should be equally attentive to it.

V.4.     It inspires preaching and open faithfulness.

V.5-6.  It creates respect for the things of God and causes worshipful humility in hearts.

V.7-8.  Sometimes it stops you in your tracks and makes you want more of it.

V.9.     Sometimes it makes you sad.

V.10.   Sometimes it makes you glad.

V.11-12.  It brings joy to everyday duties and the giving of gifts and love offerings.

V.13-15.  It brings out things for us to do that we’ve forgotten or never learned to do.

V.16.      It causes us to go and do what God would have us to do.

V.17.      It brings great gladness when followed with an obedient heart.

V.18.      It stirs consistent faithfulness.

Conclusion:  Neh. 9:1-3.  It is amazing what the simple reading of God’s word can do in the lives of God’s people.  When was the last time YOU were moved to set a time aside for fasting and for weaning yourself away from the things of this world that only bring carnal satisfaction to your flesh?  When was the last time you made a conscious effort to concentrate on spiritual things rather than sports, leisure and entertainment?  When was the last time you were truly separated from the world?  We have given God’s word to you today.  Do you feel the need to confess your sin and take a stand for the truth of God?  Do you not agree that it is time to get your life in tune with the Bible even if it takes half the day to get to the place where you can truly worship God in Spirit and in Truth?  If you are unsaved, we call on you to repent and believe the gospel to the saving of your soul.  If you profess to believe on Christ, we urge to read the word and get your heart right with God and serve Him the Bible way by His grace.  AMEN.

Salvation by sovereign grace

One of the most important things to keep straight is the doctrine of salvation by the sovereign grace of God.  We understand that man is totally depraved and apart from the sovereign grace of God, all men everywhere will remain unsaved.  Our heavenly Father chose a people in eternity and gave them to His Son.  The Eternal Son of God agreed to be the Savior of all those that the Father gave to him in eternity.  God the Holy Spirit purposed with the Father and the Son to quicken those that the Father chose in Christ and that Christ died to save – by the means of the preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eph 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:   According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

John 6:37  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Eph 2:1-5   And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Titus 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

1 Peter 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

WordPress & Scripture

This is the first post on this site and is an attempt to introduce the thought that this is merely a tool to be used to expose words that have been divinely inspired.  The reader is advised that only that which is in agreement with the canon of God’s word in the received text of the 66 books of the Bible is trustworthy.

HEBREWS

1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
