Christ and the 9th Commandment

Christ and the 9th Commandment

Exod 20:16        Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.  (KJV)

The Bible says that all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.  Rev.21:8.  Why do you think it says that?  It says that because there are some absolutes and God absolutely loves the truth and therefore He also hates falsehood.  There are many different ways to lie and we have figured out ways to be very crafty with our lies but call it what you may, no matter how you slice it, if you have not told the whole truth on a matter, you are a liar and that has sad, sad consequences in the end.  Jesus Christ is the only man that ever lived who never lied.  He is in fact TRUTH personified.  Let us consider for a few moments today Christ and the 9th Commandment.  We have three points.

1.  Jesus clearly preached this commandment in the New Testament. Matt.15:19. 19:18-19. Mk. 10:19. Lk.18:20. Lk.19:8-10.

2.  Other N.T. verses also concur.  Rom.13:8-10. 1Jn.2:4. 2:21-22. 4:20.

1.  False prophets are liars.  Matt.7:15-19. 24:11-18. 2Cor.11:13-15.

2.  There are many ways to lie but the end result is always the same. Ps.62:9-12. Prov.11:1-4. 20:23. Mal.2:9-10.
Jer.27:10, 14-15. James 5:12.  Jude 1:4.

1.  There is no condemnation to them that are in Christ.  Rom.8:1-3. Jn.5:24. Jn.3:18.

2.  Christ frees us from the condemnation of the Law.  Jn.8:32. Gal.5:1. 1Pet.2:15-16.

God is real and He has a moral standard that is just like Him.  The Law of God can never change.  What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong.  According to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, we must be careful about taking the letter of Gods law and making it say something that God never intended for it to say.  Man is very good about – or maybe I should say bad about – making religious rules and regulations that either add to or take away from what God has said.  Jesus taught that it is heart of the matter that is the important thing.  If you can get that part right the letter of the law will take care of itself.  The fact is, again, that none of us  have kept the law of God except for Jesus.  That is why it is so important for you to confess your sins and by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour.  Look to Him now and be ye saved.  AMEN.

Christ and the 8th Commandment

Christ and the 8th Commandment

Exodus 20:15        Thou shalt not steal.

Stealing is a sin that I think everyone knows is wrong even if we don’t believe our theft is as bad as the other fellow.  Am I right?  I’m really not sure where we came up with the idea of varying degrees of sinfulness but be that as it may, we all fancy the thought that our taking a small piece of candy from someone without their knowledge of it is just not the same as, shall we say, armed robbery of the First National Bank.  Sure, we all agree on that – but, did we steal?  Oh, you see, that is the rub.  Whether our sins are on the high end or the low end of our scale of sinfulness, we are still sinners.  In our study of Christ and the Ten Commandments we have seen and will continue to see that we are guilty of breaking every single one of the Ten Commandments.  Jesus is the only one that ever lived who never once broke any of God’s Commandments even in His thoughts.  Today let us consider three things about Christ and the 8th commandment.

            1.  Here again we see that Jesus taught against theft.

                 Matt.19:16-19. Mk.10:19.  Lk.18:20.

            2.  Theft is to be guarded against according to the Bible.

                 Matt.24:43. Jn.10:1, 10. 12:4-6. 1Pet.4:15. Ro.2:21. Eph.4:28.

            3.  Stealing time or giving slack service is as bad as taking material goods.

                 Matt.25:14-28.  Lk.19:13-24. Col. 3:22-25.

Titus 2:9-10       Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, (pilfer, steal) but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. (KJV)

            1.  The Devil and his crowd want to rob God of His glory.

                 2Thess.2:4-5. 2Cor.6:14-18.

            2.  Destruction awaits the unsaved.

                 Matt.7:12-23. Rom.3:10-23. Phil.3:18-19.

            3.  Hell is the eternal home of the little and big thief alike.

The rich man could have   given to help Lazarus but – no. Lk.16:19-31.

            4.  Take these matters seriously. Mk.9:43-48.

            1.  The N.T. teaches Godly contentment not the love of money.

            2.  Christ is the perfect sacrifice for sin.

                 Jn.1:29-36. Jn.8:34-36. Heb.4:15-16. 9:24-26.

            3.  Jesus bought our salvation with His blood.

                 Heb.10:17-19.  1Jn.1:7. 1Cor.7:22-23.

Once again we have seen how The Lord Jesus Christ preached the Holy Law of God and we know that sin is the transgression of the Law.  None of us can in any way keep any of the Ten Commandments.  That is God’s moral standard and we all miss the mark.  Jesus on the other hand kept the Law of God perfectly in every way from the inside out.  Christ never ever entertained the thought of stealing from anyone in anyway.  Thank God that we can go to Him and trust Him as our personal Saviour.  If it were not for Him we could never be saved.  We point you to Christ now and urge you to repent of your sin and by faith trust Him for salvation.  AMEN.
